To many people, winter is populated by dead things – bare trees, cold winds, buried flowers. For me, it’s the time when I finally wake up. Coming across an old ruined house in the woods is a reminder of what has been and what still exists. The walls might have mostly crumbled, and it’s been years since there has been any warmth in the fireplaces. And yet, it stands as a reminder of the life that has passed across this cold hillside.

As we welcome another spring, with its warmer weather, its gentle sunlight, and its scent of mud and flowers, I may be one of the few who say a silent goodbye to winter.
