The old cars start coming out when there’s enough sun to show off the shine of the chrome and the stark whiteness of the tires. They go slowly and confidently through towns or down country roads, and roll lazily through intersections. No one seems to mind too much. Our urgency for what is most likely a trivial errand has suddenly dissipated. Suddenly, we all seem to know each other and smile as we wave our hellos. Perhaps it’s the arrival of warmth and sunshine after a long, grey winter. It could be that the driver’s infectious mood catches us as our eyes follow the car until it’s out of sight. Or maybe, just maybe, we remember when our lives weren’t so busy and plugged in, and we allow ourselves the gift of slowing down just a little bit.
